Statement: The Student Union supports Trans Rights

The Student Union has issued a statement about the importance of improving Trans Rights nationally and at ÅAU. The Student Union supports the citizens’ initiative “Oikeus olla – the right to be” for fairer trans legislation in Finland.

The statement also lists suggestions for improved equal treatment at ÅAU; mandatory staff training on equality and equal treatment, clear information about gender neutral toilets, and a possibility to be enrolled in the student register as the name the student wants to use, and with an identity other than woman/man.

Letting all students and staff know that they are welcome on campus and in the academic community promotes well-being and success, as well as for the individual as for the organisation. The Student Union encourages both individuals and organisations to learn more about Trans Rights and what one can do to promote equal treatment .
