Everyone has the right to participate safely in student events

News — 29.10.2021

The Student Union of ÅAU takes the events that have occurred in recent weeks in student life seriously, where there have been reports of students possibly being drugged during events. Drugs do not belong in the student life and all students should have the right to safely participate in events and not be afraid of being drugged. We take these allegations very seriously and condemn these cases. The Student Union of ÅAU has absolute zero tolerance for this behavior.

We remind you to contact the emergency response center with a low threshold if you suspect you have been drugged. It is important to get to hospital care as soon as possible from the time suspicion arises in order to be able to confirm if someone has been drugged.

Student safety is our highest priority at our events. Collective responsibility is now required from everyone to ensure that this phenomenon comes to an end. The restaurants and bars must wake up to what is happening in their spaces and ensure that everyone can feel safe.

We will for our part develop an information package and organise education for our associations, so that they know how to act in such situations in their spaces and at their events. In addition, we actively cooperate nationally with other student unions to review what we can do together to counter the phenomenon.

Let’s do safer events together!
