Kåren's accessibility

Accessible Entrance

The accessible entrance to Kåren is located at Tavastgatan 22 in Åbo. A guiding strip on the ground leads to the entrance. On the right side of the entrance, there is an elevator for people with reduced mobility. The elevator is in use when Kåren is open. The platform entrance has an opening button that opens both outer doors. If the door does not open, you can call for assistance using the phone number marked next to the ISA symbol. Instructions for using the accessible entrance are provided at the door in Finnish, Swedish, and English. There are guiding signs at the entrance.

Accessibility inside Kåren

The accessible entrance leads to the lobby, where there is a cloakroom, an accessible toilet, and a lobby bar. An elevator in the lobby takes you to the second floor. On the second floor, you will find the banquet hall, the dining hall, and the entrance to the Student Union of Åbo Akademi University’s office. The elevator door has no automatic opener, and the pulling force is about 10 N.

Elevator

The elevator door width is 900 mm. You exit the elevator in the same direction you entered. The buttons are horizontal. The elevator does not have an electric door-opening system. Inside the elevator car, the button must be held down continuously.

1st floor

In the lobby, there is an accessible toilet. The accessible toilet is located in the entrance hall on the first floor, at the back of the lobby. The toilet door has no automatic opening system. The pulling force is about 10 N.

Pub space

On the street level of Kåren, there is a pub space that can be rented. The space is accessible.

2nd floor

From the second-floor lobby, you can access the banquet hall, the dining hall, and the Student Union office. The lobby is accessible, and there are no thresholds.

Banquet Hall

Kåren’s banquet hall is located on the second floor of the building and is accessible by elevator. The hall has a serving area and a sound system, but there is no induction loop.

Dining Hall

The dining hall is accessibility-adapted. It contains tables and chairs of only one height. At the back of the dining hall, there are two toilets.

Marlirummet (club room)

Marlirummet room is not accessible. It is recommended to use an assistant. The door width is 824 mm. There is a threshold in front of the door approximately 100 mm high.
