Statement: The Resignation of Rector Mikael Lindfelt

The Rector of Åbo Akademi University, Mikael Lindfelt, announced today, April 4, 2025, that he will resign from his position as Rector of Åbo Akademi University.

Regardless of changes in Åbo Akademi University’s management, the Student Union of Åbo Akademi University will continue to advocate for students’ interests. Our current goal is open and transparent communication from the university’s management to its students.

We already have good contact with Acting Rector Gunilla Widén and hope to work together to ensure that students are heard in the process of shaping the future of Åbo Akademi.

To rebuild the trust that has been damaged during the restructuring and transformation process, clear communication is key. Students have the right to know what is happening at their university.

Students should not have to feel anxious about how the restructuring may affect them or their studies. Students need peace of mind to study, and staff need peace of mind to work.

The Student Union of ÅAU thanks Mikael Lindfelt for his work over the past years as Rector.
