Organizer Åbo Akademis Studentkår

A hundred years ago, the Student Union of Åbo Akademi University bought the lot where the house Kåren stands today – and we want to celebrate this!

On Monday, September 22, 5–7 p.m. all students are welcome to the banquet hall at Kåren. The first 100 students will receive free food, the first 150 will get overall patches, and the bar will be open. During the evening, DJ DUO SaxBox will perform from 5.30 to 6.30 p.m. with saxophone and beatboxing to all your favorite songs.

Pizza will be served during the event, and the most common dietary needs will be taken into account. You can purchase both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in the bar.

In 1925, the Student Union purchased the lot and the accompanying wooden houses, which became the very first Student Union building. On the property there was also a chicken coop, a toddy pavilion and a fruit garden. As the number of students grew and more space was needed, funds were collected for an extension – the white part of Kåren, which was completed in 1936. The original wooden houses were destroyed in a fire in 1939, and on that part of the lot the yellow section of the building was later constructed, where the student residence Tavasthem is now located. That part of the building was completed in 1950.
